A programme of independent German theatre to mark the 50th anniversary of the Goethe-Institut in Ireland
Gob Squad demands a revolution. Now. The first steps have been taken. The auditorium has been stormed, the box office has been occupied. All without bloodshed so far...
With all the technology they can get their hands on and a charm offensive that uses cups of tea, cake and electric guitars, Gob Squad will reach out to the masses and incite them to rise up. Equipped with cameras, live links, big screens, wireless transmitters and long, long cables they’ll be broadcasting the revolution out into the world. This revolution WILL be televised. Live.
Since 1994 Gob Squad has used the language of film, TV and pop music to explore the complexities and absurdities of contemporary culture. Always provocative, entertaining and emotionally charged, in this search for clarity the audience is faced with the same questions. Whose side are we on? What do we want and how far are we prepared to go?
Co-produced by donaufestival Niederösterreich, Schauspiel Köln and Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz with support from Berliner Kulturverwaltung.
Performed in English.
