Tom and Vera: Desperate Optimists and Dublin Theatre Festival"Audacious and distinctive" Empire on Civic Life
Sept 24 - Sept 28: Samuel Beckett Theatre
Tom and Vera worked hard and played by the rules. Very much in love and in the prime of their lives they saved and invested, bought health insurance and managed their pension contributions. Their plans were measured and their future was solid
How quickly things change.
Cast adrift in an unfamiliar landscape of default notices, repossession procedures and stomach ulcers, Tom and Vera are pushed to the very edge. Not the kind of people to take things lying down and feeling they have nothing left to lose, they don a disguise, arm themselves with a gun, and set out to right a great wrong.
Desperate Optimists is a creative partnership between Irishborn artists Christine Molloy and Joe Lawlor, who create work together for film, the internet, galleries and live performance. With Tom and Vera they return to their geographic and artistic roots with this refreshing and darkly comic take on the impact of the financial crisis on two ordinary lives.
Contains strong language and scenes of an adult nature.
