The Suppliant Women: Call Out
Dublin Theatre Festival and Actors Touring Company are embarking on an exciting new production and need your help.
The 60th Anniversary Dublin Theatre Festival will open this September with an acclaimed production by Actors Touring Company and Royal Lyceum Theatre Edinburgh (UK). In each city where it is performed the company recruits a volunteer community cast of men and women, including a chorus of young local women, aged 16-25, who lend their voices to this appeal to our shared humanity.
The Suppliant Women is a passionate reimagining of an ancient Greek play in response to an urgent contemporary issue. In Aeschylus’ original text fifty women flee across the Mediterranean to escape forced marriages. They appeal for protection and asylum in Greece, placing their fates in the hands of its citizens. It is one of the oldest surviving plays in existence and a story for our time.
This is your chance to be part of the voice of Dublin which will be heard on stage telling a 2,500 year old story that resonates for Europe today.
